Easter week at Disneyland

The week before Easter is set to be one of the busiest weeks of 2017, and our friends over at TouringPlans.com predict the Disneyland Resort will approach capacity on Wednesday. Here are the predicted resort-wide crowd numbers for select days generated by the TouringPlans professional statisticians as measured for the upcoming week:

Date Overall
Tuesday, April 11, 2017 9 / 10
Wednesday, April 12, 2017 10 / 10
Thursday, April 13, 2017 9 / 10
Friday, April 14, 2017 8 / 10
Saturday, April 15, 2017 8 / 10

Not only is this week one of two peak Spring Break weeks, but it's also the final week for the 2017 Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival. Due to the anticipated attendance, the Spring Southern California Resident discount ticket is blocked out April 9–23.

Though Disney discountinued the formal Easter brunch once offered at the Disneyland Hotel, a smaller character buffet is hosted at Storytellers Cafe at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. Limited reservations are still available for Easter Sunday through the Disneyland website, or by calling (714) 781-3463.

Reservations are also available for the 2017 Easter Classic Tea at the Disneyland Hotel's Steakhouse 55. All times for Saturday, April 15 are booked, but there are openings on Friday, April 14 and Easter Sunday, April 16. Book through the Disneyland website, or by calling (714) 781-3463.

If you are staying at one of the Disneyland Resort Hotels Saturday night, check with the guest services desk to register your children for the Easter Egg hunt on the lawn of the Disneyland Hotel. This offering is limited to hotel guests, and subject to availability, so don't just show up and expect to join in the fun.

Disney to name 9 new Legends at D23 Expo event

Disney will commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Disney Legends awards this summer with a ceremony at the 2017 D23 Expo. The company last week announced the 2017 honorees, which include:

  • Carrie Fisher – Actor (Star Wars)
  • Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi – Animator (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp)
  • Manuel Gonzales – Animator, comic strip illustrator
  • Mark Hamill – Actor and voice talent (Star Wars, Miles from Tomorrowland)
  • Wayne Jackson – Walt Disney Imagineer
  • Stan Lee – Writer, publisher, actor
  • Garry Marshall – Actor, director (Hocus Pocus, The Princess Diaries)
  • Julie Taymor – Director (The Lion King on Broadway)
  • Oprah Winfrey – Actor (The Princess and the Frog, A Wrinkle in Time)

The 2017 honorees will be inducted at a ceremony on the opening day of the 2017 Expo, Friday, July 14. Tickets for the Expo are available at the D23 website. General admission tickets start at $72 for D23 members.

Pirates coming to DCA; new contest offers Disney Cruise

A 3-D sneak preview of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be shown in the Sunset Showcase Theater (formerly Muppets 3D) starting Friday, April 21 at Disney California Adventure.

To promote the release fo this fifth and final installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, Disney is hosting a “Pirates of the Caribbean” Land & Sea Sweepstakes, offering a grand prize of a Walt Disney World/Disney Cruise Line Land and Sea vacation.

To enter, post a photo to Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #PiratesLifeSweepstakes. You can enter once per day per platform, now through April 30, 2017. Be sure to read the official rules carefully, because there are several "photo content restrictions" which might render your entry inelligible, including depictions of drinking or use of weapons. Be sure to drop the bottle of rum and stow the plastic swords when you snap your entry photo.

All three of the pools at the hotel will be closed for refurbishment, including the Redwood Pool and water slide, the Fountain Pool, and the Mariposa Pool. The cabanas will also close during this time. During the refurbishment, which is expected to last at least through March, people staying at the Grand Californian Hotel can use the pool facilities at the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier Hotel.
  • Pinocchio's Workshop – closed. No reopening date available.

Resort Events

Check here to see if a large convention, competition, or park event might fall during your next trip to the Disneyland Resort. If you know of any in-park events, official or unofficial, that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).

2017

  • Main Street Electrical Parade return engagement – nightly through August 20, 2017.
  • Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival – through April 16. Tickets for the premium events are now on sale.
  • Dapper Day Spring Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, April 23. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
  • 2017 Grad Nites – May 5, 6, 10, 17, 19, 20, 24, 30, and 31; June 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, and 17.
  • 2017 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend – May 11–14. This event happens over Mother's Day weekend. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.
  • D23 Expo – July 14–16. Tickets are now on sale through the official D23 website.
  • CHOC Walk in the Park – Sunday, August 27, 2017. Registration opens in May.
  • Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – August 31 through September 3. This event adds to the Labor Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.
  • Gay Days at Disneyland (unofficial event) – October 6–8. More information on the event website.
  • Dapper Day Fall Outing to Disneyland (unofficial event) – Sunday, November 5. More information at the event website. This popular event grows larger each year, so it's worth making note of the date if you plan to visit the park during this weekend.
  • Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend – November 9–12. This event adds to the Veteran's Day weekend crowds. Registration is still open for some events via the runDisney website.

2018

  • Star Wars – The Light Side Half Marathon Weekend – January 11–14, 2018. Registration has been delayed, and will open at a later, unspecified date.

School Holidays

Notable school holidays that may impact park attendance. If you know of any other school holidays that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).

2017

  • Spring Break – Through April 29. The four-week period during which most local schools will observe a one-week spring holiday. Based on the blockout dates of the Southern California discount tickets, Disney expects the largest crowds April 9–23.
  • Utah Education Association convention (UEA, a.k.a. "Utah Escapes to Anaheim") – October 19–20. Expect large attendance levels October 19–22 as Utah students and families take advantage of a 4-day weekend created by their school's participation in a state education convention. Not all Utah schools or teachers close for or attend UEA, but the impact on the Resort is usually noticeable enough to mention.
  • Nevada Day – October 28. Nevada schools will be closed on Friday, October 28 to observe Nevada Day, creating a three-day weekend.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Non-Disney Resort Events

Notable events at parks and attractions around Southern California. If you know of an event that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail (link).

Knott's Berry Farm

Legoland California

  • Surfers' Cove at LEGOLAND Water Park – opens summer.
  • Red, White and Boom – July 4.
  • Brick-or-Treat – Saturdays in October.
  • Holidays at Legoland – November 24, 2017 through January 1, 2018
  • Kids' New Year's Eve – December 31.

Current Discounts & Promotions

Disneyland prices as of February 28, 2016.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency.

Three Day Tickets

  • Three Day, One Park per Day Ticket – Regularly $270/$258
  • Three Day Park Hopper – Regularly $315/$303

The 3-Day So Cal Resident 1-Park Per Day ticket offers residents of Southern California and Northern Baja California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on one day, and then a second visit to either park on another day on or before May 25, 2017.

You can use both days of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit one park one day and the other park on the second day, but you cannot use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $149 for ages 3 and up.

You can also upgrade this ticket to a 3-Day Park Hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day, for an additional $40, a savings of up to $106 compared to the box office price of a three-day park-hopper ticket.

If purchased in advance of arrival, the three-day tickets include one Magic Morning admission. This benefit does not come with tickets purchased at the theme park ticket booths, so make sure to order online and print at home before you arrive. If purchasing at a participating third party ticket outlet, double-check that their 3-day tickets come with this feature.

There is no "fuse" on this ticket, which means you can use the first admission today and wait until May to use the second (or third) admission. You must, however, purchase the ticket by May 22, 2017. Tickets expire May 25, 2017, and are blocked out April 9–23, 2017.

Read full details of this offer in the January 17 Disneyland Resort Update. You can either purchase tickets at the Disneyland Resort ticket booths, or online at Disneyland.com and print them at home. You can also purchase them at participating Disney Stores and authorized third party ticket outlets, including many local grocery stores.

Military

2017 Military Salute Offer

Disney released details of its 2017 Military Salute offer for Disneyland and Walt Disney World last October, and the tickets are valid January 1 through April 8 and April 24 through December 19, 2017.

At the time we first shared details of the offer, we did not know about (or Disney had not announced) a special PhotoPass promotion also available to military personnel.

Through December 19, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel who are eligible for the Military Salute offer can also purchase the Disney PhotoPass Collection for $49, a discount of 50% over the usual $99 price. The Disney PhotoPass Collection includes digital downloads of all available PhotoPass photos linked to your account, a voucher for a dining print package and a Disneyland Resort Gallery Disc with 350 high-resolution professional photos from around Disneyland Resort.

We've recapped the 2017 Military Salute offer below, and you can find all of the detailed terms and conditions on our MousePad discussion forum.

Discount Type Description
Ticket discounts

Through December 16, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:

  • Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $156 each [an increase of $13 from the 2016 offer]
  • Disney Military Promotional 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $181 each [a new option for 2017]

Disneyland tickets may be used through December 19, 2017, except that the tickets may not be used April 9–23, 2017.

Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are nontransferable and must be used by December 19, 2017.

Hotel discounts

The new offer is valid most nights from January 1 through December 19, 2017. Like the ticket offer, hotel discounts are not valid April 9–23, 2017

Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (714) 520-7088 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30 to 40 percent off, based on room category.

Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows spouses (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.

PhotoPass
discount

Through December 19, 2017, active and retired U.S. military personnel who are eligible for the Military Salute offer can also purchase the Disney PhotoPass Collection for $49, a discount of 50% over the usual $99 price.

Additional Discounts

Did we miss an offer? If you know of an authorized discount on Disneyland Resort tickets, standing offers for Annual Passholders from non-Disney vendors, or other promotions which might interest our readers, please drop us a note!

Discounts for:

Everyone

Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.

Recently, Disney has begun allowing customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item. Current offers:

  • Disneyland Snowman Mickey Tote for $19.95 with a purchase of $25 or more.
  • Disneyland Throw Blanket for $19.95 with a purchase of $40 or more.

Customers can add a Snowman Mickey tote or Disneyland castle throw blanket to their qualifying purchase for $20. Photo by Adrienne Vincent-Phoenix.

Landry's Select Club – members of the Landry's Select Club get priority seating at the Rainforest Cafe when available (which makes a huge difference on busy days). This club replaces the former Rainforest Cafe Safari Club, and runs on a point-based system that gives you a $25 gift certificate after you spend $250. Membership now costs $25, but comes with a $25 birthday reward. We recommend that you prepurchase your membership before your visit so you can take advantage of the priority seating benefit.

ESPNZone MVP Club – membership in the MVP Club does not offer any discounts on food. However, once a member you can make an online reservation for your party up to three days in advance and will get a 25 percent increase in points purchased when playing games in the Sports Arena (and 40 bonus points at activation). You must register online and your membership card will then be mailed to you within two weeks. The card must then be activated at any ESPNZone by the person who signed up for the card and ID will be required (link).

Character Dining Vouchers – discounted character dining vouchers are available for purchase online, in advance of your trip, through Get Away Travel.

Visit our Annual Passholders Blockout Dates page to see more dates. You can see future calendar schedules at Disneyland. As always, specifics are subject to change without notice (or occasionally, without us noticing) so when information conflicts between what is presented here and that presented by Disney, it is best to assume Disney's information is correct.

Visit the Park Hours section of our Disneyland Park guide for additional details about Magic Morning and Toontown Morning Madness, including available attractions. Entertainment schedule: Go directly to the Disneyland Resort schedule for this week at Disneyland.com here.

The Seasons calendar is published on the Disneyland website for the next 8-11 months.
