It's opening day on Batuu
Today is the day that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens to all Disneyland visitors, subject only to capacity limits during the park's regular operating hours. That means that all those folks who couldn't pay a visit during the "reservation period" that began with the land's May 31 opening, and are eager for their first look at this galaxy far, far away, will now have their chance to visit along with all those seeking return visits.
But, before any of us can grab a glass of blue milk or board the Millennium Falcon, it's important to know how to get into the land. Disney has applied many lessons learned during the first few weeks of operation, has created a new virtual queue and boarding pass system to regulate the flow of visitors into Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and implemented new advance reservation systems for the two hottest spots in the Black Spire Outpost, Savi's Workshop, and Oga's Cantina.

What will the grand opening day bring? Perhaps by the time you read this we'll already have an inkling of the opening day crowds, but at publication time it was still anyone's guess. The month-long reservation period will certainly have helped to draw down some of the opening day demand, with tens of thousands of people already having spent some hours inside the new land. We don't expect anything as absurd as the 10-hour lines that came with the opening of the latest ride at Universal Studios Florida, but it's entirely likely the wait for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run will hit four hours or more.
Of greater interest to many fans will be the wait just to get into the land at all, and how crowded it feels on Batuu compared to during the preview days. Disney has asked that fans not arrive before 6:00 a.m. Monday morning, and MousePlanet will be at Disneyland to bring you updates from opening day. Soarin' Over the Summer
The "special limited engagement" return of the original Soarin' Over California film to Disney California Adventure has been extended due to strong demand from fans, according to Disney. The company last week announced that Soarin' will remain in DCA through August 31.
The opening day film was originally scheduled to run June 1 through 30, temporarily replacing the Soarin' Around the World version that debuted in 2016 following the opening of Shanghai Disneyland.
Price hike for Premier passholders
Walt Disney World last week bumped the price of annual passports in advance of the August opening of the Florida version of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. While the Disneyland Resort did not follow suit, Disneyland passholders who own the Premier Passport—valid at both Disneyland Resort and Florida's Walt Disney World Resort—saw the cost of that pass jump to $2,099.
Pixar Pals parking expected to open this week
While Disney officially says that the new Pixar Pals parking structure will not be ready to open with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge this week, cast members say they are preparing for a Monday opening. On Sunday, Disney began using the new shared security checkpoints and tram loading area that will service both the Mickey and Friends and Pixar Pals parking structure, and the new structure gives every appearance of being ready to open.
While this is a suggestion we've shared for years, it becomes even more important once the new structure opens: use your phone to take a photo of your parking location before you leave the level. If you've ever forgotten where you parked your car in the Mickey and Friends structure, you know how frustrating it can be to try to find it after a long, tiring day in the theme parks.
Cast members tell us that many guests can usually recall which level they parked on by color, but two structures now share the same color scheme. If all you can remember is that you parked on the "blue" level, you'll have to try to remember if you parked on Donald or Dory just to know which structure to search for your car.
2020 Grad Nite dates and details
Tickets for the 2020 Disneyland Resort Grad Nite at Disney California Adventure Park events go on sale to school groups this fall, and we now have the dates and details for the 2020 season so readers can plan trips accordingly.
There are 16 Grad Nite events scheduled for 2020 in May and June:
- May 8, 9, 15, 16, 20, 26, 27, 29, and 30
- June 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, and 13
Vacation planners should note that the Grad Nite private party runs from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. DCA will close to "day guests" by 9:00 p.m. on event nights.
For 2020, Disney will again offer three ticket packages, from $89 to $179 per student:
- "Option 1" ($89 per student) – provides admission to the after-hours Grad Nite private party in Disney California Adventure from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. after that park closes to "day guests." This option is likely to be popular with local schools who want to attend Disney's Grad Nite on the actual evening of their graduation, after the ceremony.
- "Option 2" ($119 per student) – includes access to Disney California Adventure during regular operating hours on the event day, plus access to the after-hours party. This ticket does not include park-hopper benefits.
- "Option 3" ($179 per student) – provides park-hopper access to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks during regular operating hours, and a private Grad Nite party in Disney California Adventure starting at 9:00 p.m.
Schools that book options 2 or 3 can still choose to arrive whenever they wish during their Grad Nite event. Some arrive right at park opening to maximize their time, while others arrive later due to travel time or other activities. As a result, the parks grow increasingly crowded as the day goes on and more students arrive.
Of course, Grad Nites are not the only times that the Disneyland Resort is crowded with student groups. The last weeks of school are popular times for class trips, something that Disney actively encourages through special pricing and activities for school groups. Those visits won't appear on any calendar, but are a fact of Disney life during this season.
With so many schools on year-round calendars now, you should consider the period between March and mid-June as one big, hazy spring-break-into-graduation season. So while the Grad Nite calendar can give you an idea of when the most high school seniors will be on property, there is no way to know when a school district from central California is sending its ninth graders for their own promotion celebration.

Discounted Disneyland Resort tickets available to 2019 CHOC Walk participants
The 2019 CHOC Walk is coming up on Sunday, August 11 at the Disneyland Resort, and we have the much-anticipated details of the discounted Disneyland Resort tickets available to those who meet a minimum fundraising goal.
In addition to helping support an outstanding local charity, one of the benefits of participating in the CHOC Walk is the opportunity to purchase discounted Disneyland tickets to use in the weeks following the walk. Walkers who meet the $85 fund-raising minimum can purchase a 1-Day 1-Park Disneyland Resort ticket for $67 (reg. $122 to 149), or a Disneyland Resort 1-Day Park Hopper ticket for $93 (reg. $172 to 199). This is a discount of up to $106 off the ticket booth price of these tickets.
The tickets can ONLY be purchased by registered walkers in person at the Disneyland Resort on the day of the walk. You must present your CHOC Walk in the Park wristband to a Disneyland Resort Ticket Booth to purchase the discounted tickets.

The tickets are valid starting Sunday, August 11, 2019, and must be used by September 10, 2019. The tickets are not valid August 31 through September 3, 2019.

...For the first time since the new Disney Flex Passport went on sale in May, a "reservation required" day has reached capacity. At press time, Flex passport holders who want to visit the Disneyland Resort on July 4 could still make a reservation for Disney California Adventure, but all available reservations for Disneyland have been claimed.
...We reported last week that Disneyland's Main Street Cinema, an original 1955 attraction that features six vintage animated shorts on six screens, had been converted into a very small gift shop by the addition of several displays of Disney souvenirs. The trial lasted under a week, and the space has now returned to normal operation.
...Disneyland Resort annual passholders can receive a 10% discount at Clarabelle's and Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor by using the Disneyland app to place a mobile order. These two locations do not normally offer an AP discount. The offer runs through June 30.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Everyone
Purchase with purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced-price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

Ticket discounts
Through December 18, 2019, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:
- Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $178 each (an increase of $10 from the 2018 offer)
- Disney Military Promotional 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $198 each (an increase of $10 from the 2018 offer)
Disneyland tickets may be used through December 18, 2019, excluding the spring break blockout of April 14–22, 2019.
Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 18, 2019.
Hotel discounts
Military discounts are valid for stays most nights from January 1 through December 19, 2019. Travel must be completed by December 20, 2019.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (714) 520-7088 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30% to 40% off, based on room category.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
Photopass Discount
Eligible service members can purchase the Photopass Collection for $49 plus tax through December 21, 2019. The package includes digital downloads of all PhotoPass photos in the user's account when they redeem the voucher; a voucher for a dining print package, and a Disneyland photo disc with 350 stock photos from around the Disneyland Resort.

Here are some other details you should know about regarding the offers:
- Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased at participating U.S. military sales outlets ONLY by Eligible Service Members (defined below) or their spouses (but not both), for use by themselves and other family members and friends, as provided herein. These Tickets may not be otherwise transferred, distributed or resold.
- Eligible Service Members are active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS), and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
- The actual prices charged at the individual U.S. military base ticket offices for Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be less than the prices set forth above.
- Participating military sales outlets must require that Eligible Service Members (or their spouses) present valid military identification to purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets.

Costco Travel Packages – many different travel packages including visits to Disneyland and Disneyland hotels are available through Costco.
Disney's Resort Magic and Good Neighbor Magic Packages – these package includes accommodations in one of the three resort hotels or at one of 40 Good Neighbor hotels, along with theme park admission. The packages also come with a variety of extra inclusions and bonuses, usually a souvenir pin and lanyard, and discount coupons for various Downtown Disney merchants.

- DL – Disneyland
- DCA – Disney California Adventure
Annual Pass blockouts:
- SL – Southern California Select Annual Pass
- SC – Southern California Annual Pass
- DX – Deluxe Annual Pass
- SG – Signature Annual Pass
Flex Pass blockouts:
- Good to Go – may enter park without prior reservation
- Reservation only – must make advance reservation to enter park
- Blocked out – may not use pass to enter park
Early Admission – full description available on the Disneyland website:
- MM – Magic Mornings for 3-plus day ticket holders and promotional "bonus" tickets.
- EMH – Extra Magic Hour for Disneyland Resort Hotel Guests
