[Continuing the soft launch of the new format for the Update. This is Halloween
Halloween Time is underway at the Disneyland Resort, with a return of the slightly spooky decor and offerings in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

2017 saw the introduction of new Halloween decor at Disney California Adventure, and there are just a few new enhancements for 2018. Oogie Boogie's decorating skills are again on display along the Buena Vista Street area, and Cars Land is decked out for Haul-o-Ween.
Starting at 5:00 p.m. each night, the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction becomes Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark, with a new experience in the queue and a new on-ride song.

Over at Disneyland, the classic Haunted Mansion Holiday has reopened, Main Street, U.S.A. is once again smothered in pumpkins, and cosmic spooks have invaded Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy.
With few new additions this year, the emphasis is very much on the food and merchandise. Disney's culinary teams created over a dozen brand-new treats for Halloween Time, and spread them across both parks. There are so many new offerings, you can pick up a guide book to help you locate all of the treats you want to sample.
The oversized gingerbread house at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel is always popular with visitors, but if you get a chance this year, check out the giant pumpkin display in the main lobby. The display was sculpted from sheets of crispy rice treats, covered with chocolate and decorated with edible accents.
Miguel and Vampirina joins the cast at Disney California Adventure

If you enjoyed "A Musical Celebration of Coco" when it debuted at Disney California Adventure last year, be sure to come back to see the updated show, which now features Miguel from Coco. The addition of Miguel and two other characters to the already charming show makes it just that much more entertaining, and well worth the stop. While you're in Paradise Gardens Park, be sure to wander the Plaza de la Familia and take in all of the Dia de los Muertos-inspired offerings.

Vampirina is the star of a popular Disney Junior show, and has made her debut at Disney California Adventure. You can usually find Vampirina—or Vee, as her friends call her—in Hollywood Land. This week, she'll be on San Francisco Street, across from The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, until Thursday. Starting Friday, she's back in Hollywood. Look for her between noon and 5:00 daily.

The Earl returns to Downtown Disney
Two weeks ago, we wondered if the Earl of Sandwich was planning a return to the Disneyland Resort, based on job notices found on several hiring sites seeking workers for a "Theme Park Earl of Sandwich Anaheim." The popular Downtown Disney location was one of several business which closed in June to make way for a planned fourth hotel at the Disneyland Resort. As we've reported, those plans are now on hold as Disney and the City of Anaheim negotiate future expansion plans, leaving a string of vacant storefronts between the Disneyland Hotel and the Monorail station.
While officials with Disney and Earl of Sandwich kept mum about their plans at the time, Disney last week confirmed that Earl of Sandwich will reopen in Downtown Disney for a "limited time." The announcement provided no firm dates, either for when the restaurant will reopen in its original Downtown Disney location, or for how long fans will be able to enjoy their favorite Earl treats.
This announcement leaves us wondering if we might also see an equally "limited" reopening of the second Downtown Disney Starbucks, and possibly a new operator in the shuttered ESPN Zone or Rainforest Cafe locations.
Mickey's Halloween Party sales tracking
As of publication, all but four Mickey's Halloween Party events at Disneyland are sold out, including all September dates and Halloween night.
- Sold out – September 19, 21, 24, 26, 28; October 5, 9, 12, 19, 26, 31.
- Available – October 2, 16, 23, 29.
In 2017, all event nights sold out by September 15, so you should buy your tickets as soon as you can commit to a night. Tickets are available via Disneyland.com, at Disneyland ticket booths, or by phoning (714) 781-4636.
But what happens if you had your heart (and vacation plans) set on attending a specific, sold-out night? Before you turn to Craigslist, StubHub, or eBay (all of which bring with them the very high risk of being defrauded), here are official ways you may still be able to buy legitimate party tickets directly from Disney:
- Call Disneyland and order tickets by phone – a limited number of tickets may be available by phone for events that are sold out on line. Call (714) 781-4636 to purchase by phone. Expect to wait on hold for at least 10 minutes.
- Visit Disneyland and purchase tickets in person – a limited number of tickets may be available at the Disneyland ticket booths for events that are sold out on line. However, if you tried to purchase tickets by phone and the night you wanted was sold out, they will not be available at the ticket booths.
- Disneyland Resort Hotels – if you are a guest staying at one of the three Disney-owned hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, or Grand Californian Hotel), check with your hotel desk the morning of the event to see if they have tickets available for purchase. Last year, MousePlanet Community Leader Angela told us that a small number of tickets were reserved for Disneyland Resort Hotel guests, and were released for sale at 5:30 a.m. the morning of each party. Officially these tickets are intended only for concierge-level guests, but we've heard conflicting stories about that, and it seems some guests in standard rooms have been allowed to buy the tickets as well. If you're already staying on property, it does not hurt to ask. Angela warns that these tickets sell out very quickly, so don't wait until the party starts to try to make your purchase.
- Friends or family –if friends/family already have tickets, they may be able to purchase additional tickets the day of the party. Again, a small number of tickets are reserved for same-day sales to help accommodate ticket holders who may have miscounted how many they need, or who had friends/family unexpectedly join them. As with the tickets reserved for hotel guests, these are very limited, and go on sale as soon as the ticket booths open in the morning. If at all possible, get there first thing in the morning to increase your chance of getting tickets. You must have the other event tickets with you the cast member needs to see them, and cannot just trust your word that "so-and-so already has tickets."

...The first Mickey's Halloween Party of 2018 takes place this Wednesday, September 19. Disneyland opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes to the public at 6:00 p.m. Disney California Adventure remains open until 8:00 p.m.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.
Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

Annual Pass Monthly Payment Program

Southern California CityPASS
Southern California CityPASS ($353/$324) – includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (including one early-entry day), a one-day admission to Sea World San Diego, and a one-day admission to LEGOLAND California. The CityPASS expires 14 days after first use at any location, and the first use must occur by December 31, 2018. Purchase CityPASS through the Disneyland website or on-site at the ticket booths of Disneyland Resort or the other theme parks included in the pass. You can also purchase directly from the CityPASS website, though a shipping charge may apply depending on how quickly you need the ticket.
When you purchase the CityPASS, you have the option of adding a one-day admission to either San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park for an extra $44/$36. This upgraded pass is only available for purchase directly from the CityPASS website.
You can also upgrade your CityPASS to add more days at participating locations:
- Add a second day at LEGOLAND for $25. Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS.
- Add LEGOLAND Water Park for $30 for ages 3+ ($5 for ages 2 and under). Purchase this upgrade at LEGOLAND on the day you use your CityPASS.
- Upgrade your Disneyland ticket to another ticket or annual passport of equal or greater value. For the current Southern California CityPASS, a credit of $330 for ages 10+ ($314 for ages 3-9) will be applied toward another ticket of equal or greater value. For Everyone
Purchase with Purchase offers – Disneyland Resort shops frequently offer a reduced–price souvenir (often a tote bag, watch, or blanket) with a qualifying minimum purchase. These are offered at Disney-operated stores only, and selection may vary by location.
Disney usually allows customers to purchase more than one of the offers in a qualifying transaction, so if you spend $40 or more you can buy both items currently available if you wish. If you're a passholder, the minimum purchase is calculated after your discount, and your discount does not apply to the promotional item.

For Military Personnel
Disneyland Resort Military Discounts
Ticket discounts
Through December 16, 2018, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard, National Guard and Reservists) or their spouses can purchase:
- Disney Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $168 each (an increase of $12 from the 2017 offer)
- Disney Military Promotional 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets for $188 each (an increase of $7 from the 2017 offer)
Disneyland tickets may be used through December 19, 2018. There are no remaining blockout dates for 2018.
Active and retired U.S. military personnel can purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends. No more than six Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (or spouse) pursuant to this offer. All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by December 19, 2018.
Hotel discounts
This offer is valid most nights from January 1 through December 19, 2018. There are no further blockout dates in 2018.
Disney does not publish the actual discounted rates, and instead asks eligible U.S. military personnel to call (714) 520-7088 to check pricing, availability and to make reservations. In past years, the offer was generally 30-40% off, based on room category.
Unlike the Walt Disney World version, the Disneyland offer allows the eligible service member to book up to two rooms, and allows their spouse (with valid and proper ID) to qualify in the absence of the service member.
Photopass Discount
Eligible service members can purchase the Photopass Collection for $49 plus tax through December 19, 2018. The package includes digital downloads of all PhotoPass photos in the user's account when they redeem the voucher; a voucher for a dining print package, and a Disneyland photo disc with 350 stock photos from around the Disneyland Resort.

Here are some other details you should know about regarding the offers:
- Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased at participating U.S. military sales outlets ONLY by Eligible Service Members (defined below) or their spouses (but not both), for use by themselves and other family members and friends, as provided herein. These Tickets may not be otherwise transferred, distributed or resold.
- Eligible Service Members are active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS), and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
- The actual prices charged at the individual U.S. military base ticket offices for Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be less than the prices set forth above.
- Participating military sales outlets must require that Eligible Service Members (or their spouses) present valid military identification to purchase Disney Military Promotional Tickets.
- Disney 3-Day or 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets for admission to the Disneyland Resort expire and may not be used after December 19, 2018. Valid military identification will be required for purchase and use.
- No more than six (6) Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased and (if applicable) activated by any Eligible Service Member or spouse (regardless of the place of purchase and whether purchased by that person or that person’s spouse). In addition, one of the six (6) Tickets purchased must be used by the Eligible Service Member or his/her spouse.
- Each Disney Military Promotional Ticket must be used by the same person on any and all days.
- The Photopass Collection can be purchased only in person at Kingswell Camera Shop in Disney California Adventure, or at Main Street Photo Supply in Disneyland.
Hotel & Travel Packages
Costco Travel Packages – many different travel packages including visits to Disneyland and Disneyland hotels are available through Costco.
Disney's Resort Magic and Good Neighbor Magic Packages – These package includes accommodations in one of the three resort hotels or at one of 40 Good Neighbor hotels, along with theme park admission. The packages also come with a variety of extra inclusions and bonuses, usually a souvenir pin and lanyard, and discount coupons for various Downtown Disney merchants.
