A long time ago, Sharon broke her glasses at Walt Disney World, and three weeks ago we visited the Disney Family Museum.

Thanks as always for posting, Mike. I have to say that I couldn't disagree with you more on the Disney Family Museum. My older brother (who has worked in DL for 30 years) and I visited about 3 years ago, and had the best time. Course, we planned on taking our time, so we weren't rushed. Just a couple of Disney geeks enjoying the place for about 5 hours! I've also always enjoyed the sea lions at Pier 39. It's like a soap opera - seeing who gets on which float, who challenges who, etc. Very fun!

The Walt Disney Family Museum is indeed a very dense experience. A person inclined to read everything can quickly become overwhelmed. One good way to approach touring is to think about what period of Walt Disney's life you are most interested in, and then go to that area of the museum. The permanent collection is laid out chronologically from Walt's birth through to his death.
The area about the development of Disneyland and other theme parks will be especially interesting to parks enthusiasts. There is a very cool Disneyland model, and an animatronic "barker bird" that demonstrates how early AA technology developed.
I live in the area and I am a member. The museum has regular talks and screenings, so even if you aren't a member it's a good idea to get on the mailing list to keep informed. I went to a talk given by Brad Bird that was fantastic.
I didn't mean to imply that the museum isn't a wonderful and rich resource, only that one needs a lot of time to get almost anything meaningful out of it. If I lived in the area, I'd want to have a cot in the back!
