History and Trivia

  • At this location: This part of Tomorrowland was first put into use in 1967 with that year's New Tomorrowland. The Carousel of Progress theater was built to house the show originally developed for the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. Built for General Electric, the rotating theater moved through four scenes that showcased how electricity had changed our lives and would continue to do so. The second floor of the theater added a fifth scene: a model of Progress City, a preview of what Walt Disney hoped to built as EPCOT. In 1973, the Carousel of Progress closed and was moved to Walt Disney World. Replacing it was America Sings, which continued the rotating theater, moving the audience through period musical acts. In 1988 the theater closed for what would end up being almost a decade until construction began on another New Tomorrowland and Innoventions came into being.
  • The Attraction's History: Since opening in 1998 the slate of exhibits and exhibitors and seen an almost complete turnover.
