History and Trivia

  • At this location: This location has been host to CircleVision films since the park opened in 1971 (though the theater opened 8 weeks later than park). America the Beautiful was an 18-minute tour of the United States, originally commissioned for the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium, and then refilmed in 1967. America the Beautiful closed for a year to allow presentations of a new film, Magic Carpet 'Round the World, which ran from March 16, 1974, to March 14, 1975, at which time America the Beautiful returned with new scenes for the United States Bicentennial celebration and ran until September 9, 1984.

American Journeys took over the theater a week later, presenting slices of life around the country, and lasted almost a decade until it closed for good on January 9, 1994, for the installation of The Timekeeper and it's film From Time to Time. In the last years of its existence The Timekeeper lived on the edge of extinction, closing for lengthy periods an then reopening for peak attendance periods or when another major nearby attraction was closed and the park needed something to soak up bodies. But finally the ax fell, and though the attraction hadn't actually been open for months, the official last day of operation was February 26, 2006.

  • The Attraction's History: While the attraction itself remains unchanged, it did go through several name changes on the way to opening. The name was originally announced as Laugh Floor Comedy Club, but that apparently didn't have enough of a connection to Monsters, Inc., so the title was changed to Monsters, Inc., Laugh Floor Comedy Club. Apparently somebody decided that was too much of a mouthful and by the it opened it was officially trimmed to just Monsters, Inc., Laugh Floor. The official opening itself was delayed from early 2007 to April 2007 after test performances in December 2006 saw a muted response from audiences.
