History and Trivia

At this location: This location has always been a spot for fast food in Fantasyland. When the park opened in 1971, this counter was known as Lancer's Inn and served pizza. In 1986 Lancer's Inn closed and the location was renamed Gurgi's Munchies and Crunchies. Gurgi is a character from The Black Cauldronand was an extremely rare in-park reference to that movie. In February 1993 a more popular movie reference was picked and the name was changed to Lumiere's Kitchen. By the early '90s this location was closed for increasingly lengthy periods and had been closed for several years by the time it reopened as The Village Fry Shoppe on May 1, 2006. The Friar's Nook replaced the Village Fry Shoppe when McDonald's locations were removed from the parks in March 2009.
