History and Trivia

  • The Lunching Pad has been at Magic Kingdom since the park opened in 1971, though it wasn't always at "Rockettower Plaza." As part of the "New Tomorrowland" of 1994, The Lunching Pad was moved to its current location and got the new name The Lunching Pad at Rockettower Plaza. Into its old location went Auntie Gravity's Galactic Goodies. The previous occupant of the current location was The Space Bar, which opened with the Astro Orbiter/PeopleMover complex in 1974 and sold sandwiches and other snacks. Prior to its move, Lunching Pad sold futuristic healthy foods like yogurt and tofu ice cream in addition to salads and sandwiches.
  • Other Trivia:
    • Sponsors: Sun Giant sponsored the old Lunching Pad from 1979 to 1989 and Wise Foods sponsored the Space Bar from 1983-1993.
