History and Trivia

  • At this location: Though it didn't open until July 1, 1975, the loading area for WEDway PeopleMover was the first attraction in this location (though it was built around Star Jets (now Astro Orbiter) which had opened six months earlier.
  • The Attraction's History: The sites and sounds along the track have changed over the years along with Tomorrowland, but the ride remains essentially unchanged since it opened. In 1994, as part of the "New Tomorrowland" the name was changed from WEDway PeopleMover to Tomorrowland Transit Authority, but the ride itself was not changed. In 2010, the name "Tomorrowland Transit Authority" was retained, but "Peoplemover" was added back on to appease those who refused to give up the old name, resulting in the current unwieldy hybrid "Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover."
