History and Trivia

  • At this location: The area occupied by Tortuga Tavern Restaurante does not appear to have been occupied by anything significant prior to the opening of a restaurant there in 1974. At that time the whole area was utilized as a "Caribbean Plaza" to go along with the opening of Pirates of the Caribbean in 1973. An expansion of the restaurant in 1992 saw the closure of the neighboring Golden Galleon and La Princesa de Cristal stores, with that space being incorporated into the restaurant. Its name was changed from "El Pirata Y El Perico Restaurant" in February 2011, to match the retheme of Pirates of the Caribbean with the movie franchise.
  • The restaurant's Mexican menu was replaced with sandwiches and salads in October, 2015.
