Halloween Starts Friday

Halloween Time kicks off this Friday, September 1, and runs through Halloween night. The annual festival includes decorations throughout the Disneyland Resort, with the first signs of fall already popping up last week. The Disney100 Mickey Mouse statue was removed from display in Town Square to make room for the giant grinning Mickey Pumpkin, a popular photo backdrop each year.

The Halloween treats start even earlier than Friday at many locations, as detailed in the Foodie Guide to Halloween for 2023. Quite a few locations will debut their Halloween menus as early as Tuesday, which just means more time to try them all.

We'll be on hand Friday for the start of Halloween Time, so be sure to follow along on Facebook and Instagram, and X (the site formerly known as Twitter) for all of the updates.

Halloween Time Dining Packages

For the 2023 Halloween Time season, the Disneyland Resort has expanded its dining package offerings beyond Oogie Boogie Bash.

Disneyland

Two new offerings offer a unique way to view the Halloween Screams fireworks at Disneyland.

Two up-charge events offer a reserved viewing for the Halloween Screams fireworks. MousePlanet file photo.

Plaza Inn Halloween Screams Dining Package

This new offering includes a set menu dinner at the Plaza Inn and access to a reserved viewing area for the Halloween Screams fireworks. The package is $60 per adult ($30 per child ages 3–9), and every member of your party must purchase the package in order to access the viewing area.

At press time it appears the package is completely sold out for the dates already released, but reservations for October 31 will be accepted starting August 31. If you're visiting on Halloween night, set your alarm and be prepared to be online at 6:00 a.m. this Thursday.

Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace

Another option for fireworks viewing is the Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace, which has an updated menu for Halloween Time. Each guest receives an entree, sides, and dessert from a set menu at Galactic Grill, along with unlimited soft drinks, coffee, hot cocoa, and bottled water. For Halloween Time, guests also get their choice of a Blood Orange Slush or Pineapple and Jalapeño Limeade served with a glow cube.

Customers pick up their meal from the Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland before heading upstairs to the Skyline Lounge. Your package includes a reserved table in the Skyline Lounge all night, and you can come and go as you please. Note: You may be seated with other parties. Each table in outfitted with charging stations for your electronic devices, and there are a variety of games around the area if you're so inclined.

The Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience is $89 per person ages 3 and up, plus tax and gratuity. There's no charge for children age 2 and under, but they must sit on an adult's lap. We should also note that strollers are not allowed upstairs in the Skyline Lounge. Book select nights September 1 through October 31.

Disney California Adventure

Both the Oogie Boogie Bash dinner package and the dessert party are back for 2023. Both packages offer access to a reserved viewing area for the Frightfully Fun Parade during the after-hours party, and reservations are now open. As a reminder, admission to Oogie Boogie Bash is required for either dining package. Oogie Boogie Bash is sold out for 2023, so only existing ticket holders should make reservations.

Guests at Oogie Boogie Bash can also book reserved viewing areas for the Frightfully Fun Parade. MousePlanet file photo.

Wine Country Trattoria Oogie Boogie Bash Dining Parade Package

The three-course, prix-fixe meal is served at Wine Country Trattoria, and includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert.

Dinner is $62 for adults ($37 for children age 3–9). Tax and tip are not included, and no discounts apply to this package (a $10 up-charge applies if you select the rib eye steak).

As before, Disney is not offering reservations for this as a stand-alone package. You first make a reservation for Wine Country Trattoria online via the Disneyland website, or by phone by calling (714) 781-3463, as you would for any meal. When you arrive and check in at the restaurant, you must ask to "upgrade" to the Oogie Boogie Bash dining package, "subject to availability."

After you complete and pay for your meal, you receive a voucher for the reserved viewing area, which Disney says is a standing-only area, with accommodations for guests with disabilities.

Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party

If you'd like an actual seat for the Frightfully Fun Parade, you can book the Oogie Boogie Bash dessert party. Guests receive a plated assortment of Halloween-themed desserts, along with beverage selections, including adult beverages for those 21 and older.

There are two parties, one before each parade performance. You can check in up to 45 minutes before the first performance, or 30 minutes before the second, to enjoy the food and drinks before the parade.

Tickets are $89 (the same price as 2022), in addition to event admission, and reservations are available online through the Disneyland web site. It looks like Disney has expanded the size of this event, as check in has moved to a kiosk near Seaside Souvenirs, and the website says guests may be seated in one of three or four different locations.

2024 Disneyland Vacation Packages now available to book

If you're already looking ahead to next year, Disney is now accepting reservations for the entirety of 2024. This means you can book next year's Christmas vacation before this summer officially ends.

Not only will hotel rooms be available to reserve, Disney will also sell theme park tickets valid through the end of 2024. You can avoid the inevitable annual price increase by purchasing your tickets in advance. Contact our partners at Get Away Today or call 1-855-GET-AWAY, for assistance in booking your next vacation.

Early Park Entry changes coming in 2024

It's been one year since Disney resumed the popular Early Park Entry program at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The current offering grants Disneyland Resort hotel guests access to either park up to 30 minutes before scheduled park opening time. Select attractions, restaurants and stores are open during early park entry.

Guests line up for early park entry to Disney California Adventure. MousePlanet file photo.

Early Park Entry differs significantly from the pre-pandemic Magic Morning/Early Entry programs, in that it's offered every day of the week at both parks, including weekends. Previously, the program was available only at Disneyland on certain days and at DCA on others. Currently, guests of the three Disneyland Resort hotels can take advantage of Early Park Entry at either park every day of their trip.

That will change next year, as Disney cuts back the early entry program to just one park per day. Starting January 20, 2024, early park entry will be offered at either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure each day, based on a calendar which has yet to be published. Guests must still have valid theme park reservations for the park, which means making theme park reservations based on the early entry schedule.

More new characters in Galaxy's Edge

Two new characters are making an appearance in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at the Disneyland Resort, but you'll need a special lens to see them.

New Magic Shots featuring Chopper and a Loth Cat are available from PhotoPass photographers in the area. There is also a new Clone Armory lens available if you purchase the Disney Genie+ service during your visit.

Cinderella's Platinum Coach

Couples planning a Disney wedding will soon have one more option, as a new wedding coach is being created for the Disneyland Resort. We don't know much about Cinderella's Platinum Coach, but it looks a bit roomier and perhaps more comfortable than the coach currently in use at the Resort.

Last chance to catch Wondrous Journeys and Rogers: The Musical

Wondrous Journeys debuted at Disneyland in January as part of the Disney100 festivities. The nighttime spectacular includes a soaring soundtrack and colorful animation projected onto Sleeping Beauty Castle, the buildings of Main Street, U.S.A., the facade of "it's a small world" and the Cider Mill on Tom Sawyer Island. Most nights the show also includes fireworks.

The final performances of the year are scheduled nightly through August 31, and, weather permitting, will include fireworks. Disney has not officially confirmed that the show will return in 2024, but without another major anniversary celebration coming up we expect it will be back in January 2024.

The projections for Wondrous Journeys are clear and sharp. MousePlanet file photo.

This is also the last week to catch the limited run of Rogers: The Musical at Disney California Adventure. The final performances are this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, August 29, 30 and 31.

The 30-minute show debuted in June, and was the first production staged in the Hyperion Theater since the theme park reopened following the pandemic.

Disney has announced no plans for a replacement show, however the company is holding auditions next week seeking vocalists for current productions, "as well as new and exciting entertainment offerings at the Disneyland Resort."

2023

2023

  • Disney100 anniversary celebration – ongoing
  • Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort - September 1 to October 31, 2023.
  • Oogie Boogie Bash – September 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 24, 26, 28; October 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 29, 31. All tickets are sold out.
  • Holiday Time at the Disneyland Resort – November 10, 2023 through January 7, 2024.

2024

  • 2024 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend – January 11–14, 2024. Registration is full for all in-person events.
    • 2024 Disneyland 5K – Friday, January 12
    • 2024 Disneyland 10K – Saturday, January 13
    • 2024 Disneyland Half Marathon – Sunday, January 14
  • 2024 Grad Nites – May 10, 14, 15, 17, 19, 22, 23, 28, and 31; June 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, and 14.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Non-Disney Resort Events

Notable events at parks and attractions around Southern California. If you know of an event that should be listed here, please send us an e-mail.

Current Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 11, 2022.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident Ticket Offer

The California Resident Ticket is a 3-day, 1-park-per-day ticket that offers residents of California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure:

  • The weekday ticket – starting at $249, three weekdays (Mondays through Thursdays only) between June 12 and September 28, 2023
  • The any day ticket – starting at $299, three days (any day of the week, including weekends) between June 12 and September 28, 2023

You can use every day of the California resident ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can't use it to enter both parks on the same day.

The weekday ticket is $249 for ages 3 and up, is valid only Mondays through Thursday, and doesn't include weekends. The any day ticket costs $45 more, starts at $299 for ages 3 and up, but adds Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to your list of days.

For an additional $60, you can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day.

You can also add the paid Disney Genie+ service to your California resident ticket. Although you can upgrade all three days in advance for $20 per day (for a total of $60 for the three days), our recommendation is to pay for the service on the first day, after you enter the theme park. This will let you make sure the service provides a value for you, to decide whether you want to spend the extra money for your remaining days.

Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

There is no "fuse" on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on June 12 and wait until September 28 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it's probably best to purchase early so you're ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates.

Tickets expire on September 28, 2023, and have no holiday blackouts. That means that you can visit on the 4th of July holiday using a weekday ticket, assuming reservations are available.

Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.

Four Day Tickets
  • Four-Day, One-Park per Day Ticket – regularly $395/$370
  • Four-Day Park Hopper – regularly $455/$430
  • Disney Genie+ Add-On – $25 per day, per ticket
  • Advance purchase Four-Day tickets – check for current discounts and promotions from Get Away Today.
Five Day Tickets
  • Five-Day, One-Park per Day Ticket – Regularly $415/$390
  • Five-Day Park Hopper – Regularly $475/$450
  • Disney Genie+ Add-On – $25 per day, per ticket
  • Advance purchase Five-Day tickets – check for current discounts and promotions from Get Away Today.
Six Day (or more) Tickets

No longer offered by Disneyland for domestic customers. Some travel providers may offer tickets for 6 days or longer as part of a package to international customers; residents of Canada, Australia/New Zealand, or the U.K. should check with local travel agencies to see what options may be available.
